When I first started learning about SEO, I found the Keyword Research process to be very tedious and boring. In my mind I was just wasting time. I thought, I know my target market and I know what they search for. So foolishly I treated this crucial step of the SEO process very lightly. To my dismay I found out very quickly the importance of keyword research and it soon became the keystone of my SEO campaigns.

Although it was a pet peeve of mine to begin with, keyword/phrase research soon became my favorite step of every SEO campaign I took on for myself and for my clients. Here are 5 things that initiated my change of heart in regards to Keyword Research:

1. Drive traffic to my site by using the keywords people actually use when they’re searching (There is no point making a website to target a keyword that no one is searching.)
2. Find words or phrases my competition has no idea about (Find hidden opportunities)
3. Choosing keywords/phrases that are worth spending time on (Competition: If the keyword is to competitive I may shy away)
4. Keyword Research Tools are now more powerful and faster than ever
5. Saves me Time and Money in the long run!!!

With my change of heart these five reasons made me realize the importance of Keyword Research and it no longer was a pet peeve but now a vital part of my everyday Search Engine Optimization process. As I help friends and those I mentor I constantly emphasize the extreme importance of Keyword Research and how it will grow there online business.

Here are three (3) common mistakes people make with their keyword research or lack there of:

1. They simply do not do it (laziness)
2. They think they already know what people are searching for (online search behavior is very different from inter-personal communications. People use different, much more concise terminology in search engines than they do in conversation.)
3. We don’t spend enough time or energy on this important step, therefore wasting huge potential of quality targeted traffic

If keyword research is your pet peeve all I can say is, “GET OVER IT.” You need to realize the true importance of this sometimes tedious and boring step of SEO.

So I am finally getting done with the design of my blog here at YourSEOMentor.com and am almost happy with the layout and design. I am so sorry I know that design doesn’t matter and content does but I guess I am a perfectionist when it comes to all this stuff. No, I do not consider my self a guru or professional I simply consider myself a Teacher and Mentor of SEO and Social Marketing. I have had much success in the last 4 years and would like to share that success with everyone that is willing to accept my point of view (Which won’t always be right). I say this because I can tell you right now that I will be getting people commenting on my posts that will disagree with me which is fine. I know the SEO industry all to well and I know there will be people that consider themselves know it alls and will try and tell me that I don’t know what I am talking about. But it all comes down to this I DON’T CARE what they think. I know what works and what doesn’t work cause I do this for a living all day every day. Does this mean I know everything, of course not and I would never dream of telling you all that I do know everything.

So there it is somewhat of a disclaimer for all those that read this blog. Will I give you some great content? Yes! Will I help you with your SEO and Social Marketing online journey? Yes! Will I make mistakes? Yes! But you can know this I am here to help and mentor those that want to Learn SEO and Social Marketing.
