And you have no idea how or where to start. Well you have come to the right place here at YourSEOMentor.com! Keep reading below to get an short introduction of what SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is and why you need to learn it:

If you are just starting to learn SEO and you want some quick pointers let me help you out. First of all let me tell you why SEO is so important: Search Engine Optimization is one of the best ways to drive traffic to your website. Lets face it there are billions of websites and webpages on the WWW (World Wide Web) what makes you think yours is going to be seen. This is exactly how I came to the knowledge of what SEO was and why it was so important. I was working for a therapy company and they put me on the project of building them a website. I had some design experiance then and so I built them a pretty nice website. Then I learned about Google Analytics where you can track how many people visit your website.
Well I soon found out that nobody but me and a couple of our employees were visiting our site. I thought to my self why in the world is nobody going to this site. I then found out that there were more websites than there were people and started doing some research. I then found out that most people find websites through Search Engines like Google, Yahoo, and MSN. This is where I first learned about Search Engine Optimization.

Here is the exact definition from Wikipedia:

Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of improving the volume and quality of traffic to a web site from search engines via “natural” (”organic” or “algorithmic”) search results for targeted keywords. Usually, the earlier a site is presented in the search results, or the higher it “ranks”, the more searchers will visit that site. SEO can also target different kinds of search, including image search, local search, and industry-specific vertical search engines.

As a marketing strategy for increasing a site’s relevance, SEO considers how search algorithms work and what people search for. SEO efforts may involve a site’s coding, presentation, and structure, as well as fixing problems that could prevent search engine indexing programs from fully spidering a site. Other, more noticeable efforts may include adding unique content to a site, ensuring that content is easily indexed by search engine robots, and making the site more appealing to users. Another class of techniques, known as black hat SEO or spamdexing, use methods such as link farms and keyword stuffing that tend to harm search engine user experience. Search engines look for sites that employ these techniques and may remove them from their indexes.”

Now this is a great definition and is gives you a good idea of what SEO really is and somewhat of how it works. Here is my very quick definition of Search Engine Optimization:

“If done right (by following simple and advanced techniques and processes) you will drive free traffic to your website.” Ok so I really have a more technical definition that I will post later but hopefully you get the picture.

It is this simple. If you spend some time and sometimes just a little bit of money you can take your website to the top of the rankings and start driving free traffic.

Now some of you might be thinking, “That seems to easy.” Well you are correct in this thinking, it is not as simple as it sounds but also you need to realize that it is not as hard as it may seem either. I have been doing SEO for over three years now and have ranked in the major search engines for some very competitive keywords and have mentored a lot of people giving them step by step training of exactly what you need to do to optimize your website to get ranked in the search engines for certain keywords. Here is a quick tip, you need to be patient!!! It takes time for the search engines to come to your website read it and index it in their massive databases. Another very important tip, Keyword/phrase research is the most important aspect of SEO (in my opinion) because it doesn’t matter if you follow the steps and get ranked high for a keyword/phrase if those words or phrases never get searched, therefore never bring you traffic.

So in conclusion I love SEO and I would love to help you out in your online journey.
