So I just wanted to keep everyone in the loop quick and talk about two top news items today that I thought were worth throwing a quick post up about.

First Google just announced the new analytics–Google Insights. You can read more about the announcement and check out the new tool but here is what I think quick and then I will give you Andy Beal’s post about the topic.

First of all when you search Girl Scout Cookies it makes total sense that a majority if not all of the searches are in the United States and I love how it gives us “search terms related to girl scout cookies” such as “samoas” and “thin mints” (ummm anyone hungry yet). But there are some real problems when you plug in some other terms take a look at Andy Beal’s recent post New Google Insights: Fact or Fiction? You Tell Me where he gives and example of data for the keyword “iPhone.” Andy says,

“You tell me. Does you gut instinct make you question that there’s more interest for the iPhone in Trinidad and Tobago than in the United States?”

So you be the judge of the new Google Insights and let me know what you think. I am going to play around with it for a while before I make my total opinion.

Next item I wanted to quickly talk about was Bill Slawski’s post over at the famous SEO by the SEA called Google Stopwords Patent. What I suggest is you go over there and read it cause as always Bill has jam packed it with tons of valuable content. But here are a couple key points:

First of all he explains what a stopword is -

“Those words have been referred to in the past by Google as “stopwords,” and could be words like: a, and, is, on, of, or, the, was, with. Similar groups of words that appear very common on web pages, and are also unconnected to an actual search could be referred to as “stop-phrases.”

Bill also gives us some insight on a new patent by Google -

“A Google patent granted this week explores how a search engine might look at queries that contain stopwords or stop-phrases, and determine whether or not the stopword or stop-phrase is meaningful enough to include in search results shown to a searcher.”

So get over to his post about Google Stopwords ASAP and get the whole scoop, very interesting stuff. I am interested to see where Google goes with this cause as an SEO I always am trying to keep as many stopwords out of my pages as possible and if we wouldn’t need to worry about that anymore then AHHHH YEAAAA!

Well that is it for today just thought I better let everyone know about those top items of new! Have a great rest of the week!
