So I was on Sphinn.com today and found a blog post called “301 Redirect Explained” and was plesantly surprised to see something of this nature get to the top. Originally posts on Sphinn were more based on great articles like this that gave the users great content with articles that really brought value to it’s users (don’t get me wrong, there is still great stuff at Sphinn.com and I go there everyday). But finally an article full of great content that really gives value and education to the readers.

So I have titled this post “The long lost subject of 301 Redirect” because it has been a while since this subject has come up in the SEO community lately all it has been about is Jason Gambert (loser), Microsoft/Yahoo mess, Advanced Blackhat SEO, etc.

So getting to the point of this post I wanted to bring back the topic of the 301 Redirect. In the article posted by Ron Tovbin where he guest posted at Shimon Sandler’s blog ShimonSandler.com, he gives some great content with much value to help those understand in great technical depth what as 301 Redirect is and how it works.

Here are a couple things that I really liked from Rob’s post:

The new URL can also be 301 redirected, this is called chaining and should be avoided if you want play nice with the search engine spiders.

Who is Jason Gambert Anyways?

At this point everyone in the SEO world knows who Jason Gambert is and knows that he is trying to Trademark the term “SEO”. If you haven’t heard about this yet then watch the “Man on his Way to Trademark “SEO” video at WebProNews.com.

I have decided to start a semi-monthly cartoon so I thought I would start off by having a little fun with the whole joke of Jason Gambert (because it really is a joke)!

So what does everyone else think about the whole Jason Gambert issue? See what Dave Harry of Huomah.com and others have to say with his SEO Overlord blog post.

The Term “SEO” Becomes Trademarked! What?

So there has been a huge uproar in the SEO community about the term “SEO” being trademarked. It is hard to believe this could happen and of course me like many are opposed to this tyranny. Someone that is more opposed than anyone is David Harry aka The Gypsy of Huomah.com. Check out one of his articles that I just loved called Please welcome our new SEO overlord.

Below I clipped a good article explaining what our new SEO Overlord Jason Gambert is trying to accomplish.

Could the Term “SEO” Become Trademarked?

If you read the headline and thought it was just a teaser to get you to read this post, think again. SEOs really do have a new trademark issue to worry about. According to a post by Sarah Bird on SEOmoz, a man named Jason Gambert has applied for a trademark of the term, “SEO.” It would be my pleasure to write this next sentence saying that Trademark Office isn’t complying with Gambert’s wish, but that isn’t the case.
On March 25, the Trademark Office notified Gambert of the following news:
And let it be a lesson to those who quit easily, Gambert has actually been rejected several times during his application process. But he has persevered, and his persistence has paid off.
If you feel you would be harmed by the issuance of a trademark for the term SEO, it might be in your best interest to contact the Trademark Office and let them know.
